Hello, I’m Meg.
Early 20s, born and living in Australia.
And this? This is a space where I hope to develop my personal cooking style and a repertoire of favourite ‘fall-back’ recipes; much like an ungainly caterpillar grows into a little sassy butterfly. A culinary chrysalis, so to speak.
I will be working through my late grandmother’s cook book. It is a priceless tome, filled with yellowed newspaper clippings and Jean’s graceful copperplate. I imagine hundreds of books like these scattered throughout the world, humming with forgotten recipes. It seems such a shame to keep them huddled in some corner of a cupboard, swathed in dust-covered fabric. Do you agree?
So this blog is a journal of bringing the foods from past generations back to our table.
Where they should be.
So glad you found us Meg, so now I can follow your progress recreating your Grandma’s recipes. Lucky you having the original source! 😄
This is truely amazing meg!! i am sending the link to everyone!! My mouth is watering to every single recipe so far. This would make a fantastic cook book one day! i think you should definitly aspire to doing that
Wow that is so lovely of you, Aimee, thank you! I secretly hoped to, one day, and you’ve given me a major confidence boost
No one gets to see those recipes if you leave them in your dusty bottom drawer. Better to share them with us food lovers.
Love this concept. Love, love, love.
This is such a beautiful idea! Can’t wait to read more from you
This is such an amazing idea! Ah half of me is jealous that I didn’t think of it first and half of me can’t wait to read on! Good on you ! xx
Goodness Sam, thank you for such a glowing commendation!
Hi Meg,
This is such a gorgeous idea! I love the photos of recipes from the book. How come no one write’s like Grandmothers anymore? We’ve got a book like this in my family too, it’s a Scout’s cookbook from Benalla (where my mum and her family lived for a few years). The pages are yellowed and some have holes where a mouse was lucky enough to find chocolate cake batter. You’ve inspired me to hunt for this relic and see what it can teach me
Hi Erin, thank you for sharing
It warms my heart to know other people still feel the tug of their grandparents’ recipes. Yes, handwriting is a skill that no longer seems so valued. Such a shame! I have been more conscious (and, admittedly, critical) of my own since studying her cookbook.
